The Story
Anou ('well' in Tamazight) is a Moroccan artisan cooperative platform founded by Hamza Cherkaoui in 2013. The cooperative works with 450 artisans across the Atlas Mountains, enabling them to sell directly without middlemen. Anou's Beni Ourain rugs are hand-knotted by Berber women in the Ait Bouguemez valley using undyed sheep wool. The cooperative was backed by the Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship and featured by The Guardian and Al Jazeera.
