The Story
KUR (meaning 'leather' in Amharic) was founded in 2014 by REDIS - Rehabilitation and Development of Indigenous Skills, a social enterprise that trains disabled veterans in leather craftsmanship. Based in Addis Ababa, KUR produces premium leather bags and accessories using vegetable-tanned Ethiopian sheep and cowhide. Each piece is stamped by the artisan who made it, and 60% of revenue goes directly to the maker. Featured at the 2019 Milan Design Week.
