The Story
Le Ndoma ('the pattern') is a Dakar-based Bogolan atelier founded by Boubacar Doumbia in 2000, one of the few studios practicing authentic mud cloth outside Mali. Boubacar trained in DjennΓ©, Mali β the birthplace of Bogolan β before establishing his workshop in Dakar's MΓ©dina neighborhood. Each piece is painted with fermented river mud from the Senegal River on handwoven cotton, using mineral mordants that create permanent black, rust, and white patterns. Le Ndoma has exhibited at the Dakar Biennale (2014, 2018, 2022) and the Smithsonian African Art Museum.
