Tiemar is a 120-woman argan oil cooperative in the UNESCO-protected Arganeraie Biosphere Reserve of southern Morocco. Founded in 2006 with support from the Moroccan Agency for Agricultural Development, Tiemar was among the first cooperatives to achieve EU and USDA organic certification for argan oil. The women crack argan nuts by hand using stones (it takes 40kg of nuts to produce 1L of oil) and cold-press within 24 hours. Tiemar's argan oil supplies French cosmetic houses and is sold at Galeries Lafayette.
